Coffee
Although we are a specialty shoppe that features loose tea, we dearly love our coffee and have tried it around the world. The best cup of coffee I have ever drunk was either the rich Honduran brew served with breakfast on Roatan in a restaurant with surf lapping beneath the open deck and ants all over the table or in the slightly more civilized setting of the deck of a cruise ship at 5:30 am as we approached the Mendelhall Glacier in Alaska. Just reflecting on these great cups of coffee remind us that, like tea, coffee can be a true experience - not just a morning caffeine boost that helps us get through our increasingly busy day. That is why we offer our favorite coffees - the blends and roasts of Raven's Brew. We discovered this unique roaster on that cruise to Alaska - a trip fraught with the dangers of being overwhelmed by the myriad of Seattle coffee shops and their acrid full city roasts. With roasting facilities in Ketchican, Alaska and Tumwater, Washington they offer a full line of coffees from light to full city roasts with their specialized air roasting techniques that give you the balance of great coffee taste and roast flavour and body that makes a great cup of coffee. You can order coffee directly from their website and they will ship it directly to you - freshly roasted and mailed within a day or two. In fact, we have done that for years. But you can also come to the shoppe and pick up a bag of your favorite roast with no shipping or handling and brew your first pot tonight. We are proud to carry this portion of the Raven's Brew coffee line-up. Santa Caws - A Full City Roast with a sweet and delicate body. A Holiday treat that is come and gone by the time the clatter of hooves have faded from the rooftops. Hanukkah Java - A Full City Roast with a sweet and delicate body. Spin the dreidel, light the menorah and enjoy this warm and comforting treat, because by the 4th of Kevet... it will be gone. Cherry Karma - Perhaps the most complex and rewarding of all of the Raven's Brew line. They only make a limited batch each year, but that is probably for the best. It's almost impossible to stop enjoying the chocolate, cherry and walnut flavor accents. This is not flavored coffee. It is simply the perfect medium roast for the best beans and a secret drying technique that embues this magical elixir with an improbable but not quite impossible delicious cup. Breakfast Blend - Paula's favorite - Our lightest roast - more coffee flavour -less roast taste with less body - much more caffeine. Baranof's Blend - A blend of 80 % light roast and 20% full city roast - a blend of body and a hint of a full city and the caffeine punch of a light roast. Resurrection Blend- A medium roast has more flavour and body slightly less caffeine - a fine roast for a milder espresso. Misty Fjords -- A medium roast blend that is excellent to go with desserts or a quiet evening with friends. Dead Man's Reach - Bill's favorite -- A full-bodied dark roast of exotic coffees. Perfect for automatic drip or espresso. Stands up to cream and sugar - if you do that sort of thing to a perfectly innocent cup of Joe. (Okay- Dead Man's Reach may not be perfectly innocent - but so far - its at least not guilty) Three Peckered Billy Goat -- A dark roast of superb arabica beans. This blend has all the body and fullness you would expect from a coffee that has earned the name Billy Goat. Wicked Wolf -- Deep dark and delicious - this full city roast has sweet and earthy tones -- a fantastic coffee that is excellent with rich desserts or more exotic add-ins - like flavoured syrups or maybe a little Kaluha. Bruin Blend -- Strong enough to stand up to a Klondike morning and rich enough to accompany breakfast or a decadent dessert. Skookum -- Big, Strong and Bold as the name suggests. Skookum comes from the Chinook word for "Strong". This Full City roast means business and will thrive even in the face of cream and sugar and other unneccesaries. Skookum Decaf -- Normally, I hold no truck with foolishness like "decaf"... but if you were going to subject a coffee to the rigors of the water filtration needed to beat the caffeine out of the coffee, at least this is a great coffee to start with. Big and Bold and a Full City Roast. As nonsensical as it seems - the darker the roast, the lower the caffeine content. So a great rugged cup of coffee that has already been deeply roasted has the best shot at being a great cup of decaf. And Skookum Decaf definitely fits the bill.
